By default: nothing

Until you choose, this site sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else. The font is served from this site, so loading a page doesn't tell a third party you visited.

Analytics, only if you accept

If you click Accept, the site loads Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get read. It sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_…) that last up to two years, and records things like the pages you view, how you arrived, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (city or country). Google Analytics 4 doesn't store IP addresses. Advertising features are turned off: no ad personalisation, no data used for ads. The data is processed by Google under Google's privacy policy.

If you click Decline, Google Analytics never loads. Either way, your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) for a year, so you're not asked on every page.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time — from the footer of every page, or here: Cookie settings. Declining after accepting stops analytics and removes its cookies.

The live demo on the home page

The simulation under the headline runs entirely in your browser. Pressing its buttons sends nothing anywhere. To show how quickly the page reached you, it makes one request back to this same site to read which data centre served it; that request carries no information about you.

Server logs

Like any website, the hosting provider may keep standard request logs — such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request — for security and to keep the site running. I don't use these to identify or profile visitors.

I'll use your address and what you write only to reply to you. I won't add you to a mailing list or share your details. If you'd like me to delete our correspondence, ask and I will.
